People as a whole have this internal meaning quotient that provides a real motivation to the footsteps of life and without some true aligned inner-agreement in the meaning to what one commits ones life and time to, there remains a void down deep at the center of the soul that can never really be filled no matter what one uses in the cause of a quick fix. We all know this in some comparative sense, for everyone spends a great amount of time seeking their own meaning although in many cases there remain many who simply choose to remain scant of the awareness that gives rise to direction and purpose. What remains as a result is what is so frequently experienced in the world. This is the sense that people are meant to live lives that are sequestered for "whatever" instead of living lives that have a real meaning and purpose. This author once had the personal fortune of working with a soul who consistently reminded that there was meaning in all work and that all expenditure that was a true service to others was never an expense of the self in the vacuum of meaning. In other words, we all in our own way choose to and have the endless chance to choose to foster the meaning in our lives. One chooses a lack of meaning in life, it is never thrust upon anyone! At one point this author spent some time working in what is frequently referred to as a "cubical city". The tasks were hardly simple and aided many people who very much needed the assistance of knowledgeable professionals to aid them in their times of illness. Without a doubt there was never one single day that passed without someone in the cubical city uttering the same diverse phrase, "why am I here?" Or, "this is a boring way to make a living!" Yes, there was a constant awareness that what one did provided others with a service that was in many cases a dire need from those on the other end of those many tens of thousands of telephone calls received in the cubicle city on any one day. The meaning however to what one did was something that could never be defined by anyone else; it was a motivation of personal accomplishment that could only be defined by the one, by the one soul who performed those tasks for another. It was always interesting to think on how so many tend to view what they did and how they did it and right along with all of this how so many tended to limit their vision of the end stage that comes from the effort. So many times it seemed that it wasn't the accomplishment that was the problem with so many in those cubicles. The problem seemed to continuously be rooted in the meaning behind what they did and the directions that so many found themselves walking on a daily basis. This author once read an accounting of one period in the life of Mother Theresa and her times helping the poor. This author could hardly read such a passionate accounting of the service and the spiritual support that was handed out to so many others in an act of love by Mother Theresa without thinking of the singular sense of personal meaning and the clear sense of awareness for her direction in life that she must have held right at the core of her being. Religion and such preference aside. Think of the person and the sense of personal meaning and direction that was inside of her motivating her footsteps. It seemed that she cared not for riches or for value of pomp or celebration of her accomplishments. It seemed that great reimbursement of some usually valued physical sort was the furthest motive from her spirit. What did seem to be a motive more than anything else for her was the need and the motive to meet the great suffering that was there by so many and the spiritual sense of direction that was right in line with the needs of the many as well! This is the sort of awareness of the self that history tends to recall vividly. Why one may ask? It is simple. Everyone, in some valued spiritual way deep down to their cores of their being understand very well that there is nothing, POSITIVELY NOTHING that is ever more important and critical than the value of a single life and the quality of that life in the entire world. Yes, some can diminish this value. Yes, some can deny this value. Yes, some can choose to simply and in some cases, conveniently ignore this value in existence. Nonetheless, it remains and always will remain the greatest motive for the heightened state of awareness in everyone for there is nothing that brings conscious thought of the meaning of existence more than the needs of someone else, and for the self when the same is mortally and spiritually threatened in some way. Mother Theresa understood this better than most in the world. Imagine if you will what the world would be like would everyone think of the value of human life and all of life as that Lady did? Imagine what would suddenly come to be as a true state of existence for all in this world? The means and the ways to opening the doors to such a state of awareness that gives someone that true sense of meaning and direction in life is not all that difficult to re-discover, and yes this author does mean "RE-DISCOVER" and to put into directional motion in life. It simply requires that one not ignore ones own awareness of the world and what is truly going on, what is truly in need, and what truly is of value. Yes, this is what spirituality is all about, and this is what the experience of the soul is all about. For us all in some way eventually we learn what this is all about, even when one ignores its meaning. As much as it may be a contentious point at times and for some very good reasons, the fact remains that the meaning of life does not merely exist in the attainment of wealth, or the fortune of property, and in the selling of some commodity. It does not rest in the sole division of some figure or in the lacking of a desire to share some basic substance of life with another. It also rests in the virtues of the qualities that makes life itself possible, in sometimes the most basic of senses, and in every case the most spiritual of senses. Never forget that YOU DEFINE YOURSELF and your purpose, no other! Think about it... As Always, WD Allan © Copyright 2010, WD Allan, Spiritualitymoment.com All Rights Reserved

Some great listless personal problems rise from the lacking of a true sensitiveness to ones own purpose in life and it is this lacking of meaning that causes a blurred sense of personal direction.
